Taynton

The village of Taynton incorporates the hamlets of Kents Green and May Hill. You can see pretty cottages made from local stone and also properties dating back to Elizabethan times.

The old church at St. Lawrence was burnt down during the Civil War, but was replaced in 1650. This is very unique to britain in that it has been aligned "the wrong way round". It is true that several prominent people lived in the village at one time or another, including Thomas Pury. he was known for his defence of Gloucester during the siege in 1643 and later, Morgan Phillips Price, the MP for the Forest of Dean lived in the village. Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli owned Taynton Court at one time.

In the spring, the road verges around the village are a mass of daffodils and Taynton Woodsare a breathtaking sight with a carpet of bluebells and the distinct smell of wild garlic.
