Cycling in the Forest of Dean

Cycling can be such an enjoyable pastime. Why not bring your bike to the Forest, or even hire one at a very reasonable cost. The Royal Forest of Dean is famous for its forest tracks suitable for people of all ages and capabilities.

Taking your bike is fun, inexpensive, and a relaxing way to enjoy the outstanding scenery that the Forest has to offer. Cyclists are welcome on most Forestry Commission land, which is ideal for this type of activity, but please remember that you must keep to the bridle paths and byways. There are many marked cycle routes in the Forest.

In years gone by, the Forest of Dean was criss-crossed by railways that served the mines and quarries. Many of these have now also been opened up as cycle ways.

Cycling leaflets can be obtained from the Coleford Tourist Information Centre, and at the specialist bike hire centres.
