Swan House in the Forest of Dean
Set in the beautiful village of Newnham on Severn on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean, Swan House is a charming, characterful 17th Century merchant's town house, which has been lovingly restored to include 4 luxurious, centrally heated e-suite guest bedrooms. Each bedroom has been individually designed to suit your every need. Even down to the crisp, white cotton bed linen, antique pine beds, electric blankets when winter bites and home made biscuits on each welcome tray. The cuisine is delicious, entirely home-made and traditional, using local, organic meats and vegetables and free-range eggs, together with fresh herbs from our garden. We are happy to cater for special dietary needs and dogs are made especially welcome.

St. Peter, in Newnham, had a chapel of ease by 1018 but the church only attained full parochial status in the 14th century, by which time it was in danger of being undermined by the River Severn. In 1366 a new church was dedicated and built on a fresh site further to the west. Both the church and castle were captured from the Royalists by Colonel Massey in 1644. During the commotion, the Royalists exploded a powder keg in the church causing a great deal of damage. The tower was given new battlements in the 19th century. Unfortunately the church was partially destroyed by fire in 1881 but later in the year, it was rebuilt and re-opened for worship.
